You may experience minor side effects during the recovery period. These can include sensitivity in the treated area and possibly small blisters, which may last a few hours to a few days. Our CryoPen device minimises the risk of blistering, but it’s essential to avoid touching or picking at the treated area. It is normal for the skin to appear darker while healing, but it will return to your natural colour soon after.

What is the downtime?

Any discomfort during CryoPen therapy is minimal and brief. You might feel a slight stinging sensation while the nitrous oxide is applied, lasting only a few seconds. Any lingering stinging is perfectly normal and should subside within a minute or two.

Is it painful?

Typically, treated lesions will fall away within 2 to 14 days, though deeper or larger lesions may take slightly longer. Once healed, the skin will be smooth and clear. In some cases, a second session may be needed for stubborn lesions. Results are long-lasting and often permanent, although new lesions can develop over time due to factors like genetics, sun exposure, or skin type.

After treatment, the area may appear red, slightly swollen, or develop a small blister; this is part of the healing process. Avoid picking or scratching the area and let the skin heal naturally. Keep the area clean, avoid sun exposure, and apply SPF daily to protect healing skin. Additionally, we advise avoiding antihistamines for 48 hours before and after treatment, and ideally, for a week to ensure the best results.

What aftercare is needed?

All moles must be checked by a medical professional within six months prior to CryoPen treatment. You’ll need to provide the details of the doctor who performed the check. Alternatively, you can use our Map My Mole service where we take specialised photos using a dermascope capturing up to three moles per session with a full dermatology report within 48 hours.
